“Accessibility is important to UBCIC, so alt-text and long descriptions of the digital objects in the collection will improve the accessibility of the gallery for all users. Long descriptions will also be used for the ‘search by: keyword/key phrase’ function, and can help users find a shirt based on characteristics identified in the description (e.g. ‘blue’; ‘v-neck’). Long descriptions also allow low-vision users with screen readers or users with low internet connection to engage with the gallery without needing to view images.”
